Everywhere on social media you see real estate agents selling homes, leasing apartments and the benefits to becoming a real estate agent! But, how do you become one?
Becoming a real estate agent and having a successful career is not the easiest job, but it is definitely rewarding. Listed below will be some tips and advice for becoming a successful real estate agent.
What are the requirements of becoming an agent?
First, you need to get a real estate license, but to achieve that you need to take the required education. In CT, you need to take a 60 hour class called Principles and Practices. Once you pass your state and national licensing test, you need to find a brokerage that you will work under as a licensed realtor. You’ll need to join a local association to get MLS access in CT, and you’ll also join the state association, CT Realtors, and National Association of Realtors for your official Realtor status. Once you are licensed in one state, you could also get licensing in other states, depending on if they have reciprocal licensing.
What are the pros and cons of being an agent?
Everyone wants to become an agent, but after becoming one a lot of people realize the work that comes with it. You make your own hours; you are your only boss! But, that also entails all the responsibility that is laid upon you. There is no limit whatsoever to what you make, but there is no guaranteed income. Now there are easy solutions to these like being on top of your schedule and keeping track where your money goes and where it comes from. It is all up to you on how successful you will be in this career.
How do I find my clients?
You’re new in the industry, you are ready to take on the housing market, but now how? Who do you talk to? Joining organizations in your community will not guide you in the right direction, but also build your great network. Doing some research online or asking a fellow realtor for mentorship will help guide you to what organizations to visit.
